While visiting the Aviation Museum and the Aviation Hall of Fame on
March 7, 2016 in Teterboro, NJ, a town next to Hackensack, NJ, I came across
Edward S. Popek, who had this written on a plaque with his picture above it:

EDWARD S. POPEK
Hackensack, NJ

Major Edward Popek in two tours of duty, flying both P-47s and P-51s, totaled 225 missions and was credited with seven “kills” prior to the armistice with Japan.

       I came home and checked the original Wall Unit list which is at
Hackensack High School , which is shown on the introduction to this website, and his name was on the Original Wall Unit.  These names were put on the Wall by faculty and students during World War II, paying tribute to the graduates of Hackensack High School who were serving at the time.

Edward S. Popek is listed under the Army Air Force Ace list having flown with the 342nd and the 348th Squadron Group and he is listed, as above, with seven credited downing’s of enemy planes.

Let us never forget their sacrifice.
